The joints between the individual modules of a building - also known as expansion joints - carry out important functions that help ensure a building’s durability and protect it from damage. They must be implemented correctly using suitable sealing solutions to prevent thermal bridges and to absorb any movement from the modules. The construction phase itself also has to be taken into consideration when choosing materials as the joints may be temporarily exposed to weathering.

Protecting people from fire is the number one priority. This means that fire and smoke must be prevented from spreading through buildings. Passive, structural fire protection divides buildings into different fire sections. Using fire protection solutions to seal gaps, joints and openings provides entire components with the requisite fire resistance for a defined period of time.
